The IEEPA duty on a shipment depended on where the goods came from and when they entered. Pick a country for a dated history and sources.

China and Hong Kong

Goods from China carried two separate IEEPA duties in 2025, and the reciprocal rate changed five times in six weeks. Getting the dates right is the key to checking a China refund.

Canada

Canadian goods were never subject to the reciprocal tariff. They paid a separate IEEPA duty, and most USMCA-qualifying goods were exempt from it after the first few days.

Like Canada, Mexico was outside the reciprocal tariff. Mexican goods paid a separate 25 percent IEEPA duty unless they qualified for USMCA.

From late August 2025, most Indian goods paid 50 percent in IEEPA duties: a 25 percent reciprocal rate and a separate 25 percent duty tied to Russian oil purchases.

Brazil

Brazilian goods paid an additional 40 percent IEEPA duty from August 2025 on top of the 10 percent reciprocal rate. Coffee, beef, and other farm goods were later removed from it.

Vietnam

Vietnam is a major source of apparel, footwear, furniture, and electronics. Its goods paid the 10 percent baseline, then a 20 percent reciprocal rate from August 2025.

European Union

EU goods had a different structure from most countries. From August 2025 the reciprocal duty topped the total up to 15 percent including the ordinary duty, so goods with high ordinary duties paid no reciprocal duty at all.

Japanese goods paid 15 percent reciprocal from August 7, 2025. A later order changed that to a 15 percent all-in structure, applied back to August 7.
